Tom Osler is professor of mathematics at Rowan University. He received
his Ph. D. from the Courant Institute at New York University in 1970 and is the
author of 97 mathematical papers. In addition to teaching university
mathematics for the past 46 years, Tom has a passion for long distance
running. He has been competing for the past 53 consecutive years.
Included in his over 1900 races are wins in three national championships in the
late sixties at distances from 25 kilometers to 50 miles. Best running times
are: 6 Miles track 30:30 in 1965 and 1967; Marathon 2:29:02 at Boston (18th) in
1967; 50 Miles track 5:49:14 in 1975; 100 Miles track in 16:11:15 in 1978. He
is the author of two running books.
