Information Resources Training Services
The newest member of the Information Resources family, Information Resources Training Services was formed in summer 2004 to meet the technology training needs of Rowan University. IR Training Services is comprised of 3 individuals (2 FTE), Debra Denton, Susan Hersh, and Denise Ruggieri, with a combined training/educational experience of over 20 years.

IR Training Services offers a variety of training opportunities pertaining to SCT Banner, Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, Word), Faculty Self Service, Student Work Study, and more. We strive to meet the diverse learning styles of the campus community ranging from traditional classroom setting, open help sessions pertaining to a specific topic, and extensive online resources.

Throughout the 2005-2006 year, IR Training Services offered 117 live training sessions totaling 830 attendees. Over 270 training hours addressing 30 topics were available, averaging 22 hours of live training per month. In addition, IR Training Services maintained 170 training resources available at http://www.rowan.edu/irtraining including written materials, 5-minute videos, computer based training, recommended books, and website links. Throughout the 2005-2006 year, over 5000 website visits were recorded.

Kevin graduated from Pepperdine University in Malibu California with a Masters in Educational Technology in 2005 and he received his bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Rowan University in 1998.

James A. Henderson, Jr., Director of Enterprise Information Systems (EIS)

James A. Henderson, Jr. (Jim) is Director of Enterprise Information Services at Rowan University. He has 29 years of information resources management experience in postsecondary education. He has managed EIS at Rowan since 1989. Jim has had experience in a broad scope of IR service provision here at Rowan: overseeing the implementation of Rowan's first telephone and voice mail systems, the acquisition and subsequent upgrading of a billing system, the addition of a voice response system, the installation of the initial phases of the fiber optic backbone system, the introduction of the university card system (ID / debit), major reprographics improvements, the transition from VAX to AlphaServer technology, the initiation of a problem tracking system, the introduction of a Help Desk function, the installation of an administrative LAN, major software systems implementations and upgrades – with the latest being the migration to SunGard Higher Educations’ Banner ERP system, from the SCT Plus2000 systems. He worked with Network and Systems and Web Services in making the move of University Support Systems to client-server and web oriented technologies. Jim is now concentrating on the management of EIS activities, which includes ERP systems, adjunct processes and ancillary systems interface support, technical operations services, and duplicating/print center services.

He is the functional administrator of the Bugzilla project / problem management system and manages the University’s mass e-mail broadcasts (official, general, events, and student). His voice is known to many from the voice mail delivery of closing and emergency announcements.

Before coming to Rowan he served as Director of Planning and Research and then Executive Director of Information Resources Management (IRM) for the multi-campus Midlands Technical College in Columbia, S.C. Prior to his work in education, Jim worked in the private sector as an urban planner for an architectural-engineering-planning firm. He earned full membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners. He is a graduate of Furman University, with graduate work in history at Virginia Tech.

University Support Systems Services

Anne Pinder, Assistant Director of EIS

Manages a staff of eight information analysts, a report writer, and three data base administrators providing support to all University systems. Also oversees database support, software patching/repair, interfaces to other university and auxiliary systems.

Additionally serves as Banner Project Manager with ongoing conversion and Implementation/operational tasks. Includes:

• Coordinates training, schedules, and problem/concern resolution with SunGard Higher Education's Project Manager and other appropriate vendor personnel for all user groups.

• Works with functional Team Leaders to ensure accomplishment of University goals and objectives, within defined time frames and resource Levels. The mission is to meet the needs of each department with the completion of projects, adjunct processes and reporting.

• Coordinates on-going activities of the Implementation Team and the functional area Project Teams. This consists of attendance at all meetings, development and coordination of training, and most importantly, problem identification, project planning/project management, tracking and resolution.

• Tasked with ensuring the timely implementation of all patches, releases, and version upgrades.

Responsible for ensuring that all required interfaces between Banner components and University functional office(s) procured applications programming interfaces (API) systems are developed and maintained.

• Further responsibilities include the provision of appropriate levels of support for other administrative software systems procured by University functional offices.

• Oversee(s) all data migration and data warehousing from legacy and/or stand alone systems.

Anne received her Masters Degree in Technology Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. Anne also possesses a Graduate Certificate of Special Study in Information Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. Anne’s undergraduate degree in MIS was earned at Rowan University in 1995.

Verna Bullock-Lewis, Information Services Analyst

Verna is the primary EIS analyst responsible for supporting the Millennium Information System, Rowan's Alumni and Development system. She also works as the lead analyst in support of the Banner Student module. Banner is Rowan’s new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system; it is made up of the following modules: Finance, Human Resources, Student, and Alumni/Development. Verna has worked with the Registrar's Office, the Bursar’s Office, Undergraduate Admissions, and the Graduate School for a number of years in the use of Rowan’s student-related systems.

Janet Morgan, Information Services Analyst

Janet works as the Report Writer for the various University departments. Her responsibilities include functioning as the point person for Discoverer questions/problems from the clients, maintaining and overseeing various scheduled production reports, and assisting other technical staff as needed with programming requests.

Janet has been employed by Rowan University since July 2003, and worked on the Recruiting and Staffing team in Human Resources as front office support prior to joining EIS in July 2005.

LuAnn works with the University departmental clients and the EIS staff in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Student systems, Accounts Receivable and Financial Aid Management. Her responsibilities include functioning as the Workflow Coordinator, and assisting the Security Coordinator with system security management for administrative Alpha system applications, SunGard SCT Banner applications, WebFocus, Discoverer, Eprints, Form Fusion and other various applications.

LuAnn joined the Rowan community in 1988, and she has worked with many different departments throughout the university community researching and coordinating special projects.

Red has a wide ranging background having worked as an applications programmer, systems administrator, network engineer, and information analyst. He is managing the team of Oracle database administrators, whose primary responsibility is keeping Banner and the Oracle Databases fully patched and operational. The DBA group also implements and provides internal EIS support for adjunct systems such as AppWorx, Oracle Discoverer, and WebFOCUS.

Elizabeth Mitchell-Brown, Campus Database Administrator

Elizabeth functions as a Jr. Oracle DBA whose primary responsibilities include providing technical support of Oracle and SCT-Banner products. This includes implementation AND Go-Live schedules for all Banner modules, applying patches and point release upgrades to all Banner instances, and maintaining documentation of current patch status. Beth also is responsible for upgrading and migrating the Banner and Millenium databases. Additional duties involve developing Banner SSB web pages to meet client specifications, creating and maintaining UNIX scripts for database performance and tuning.

Maggie is the Technical Operations Services (TOS) supervisor and oversees the following daily routine tasks:

  • Schedules and monitors Banner job processing using the production job scheduling system (AppWorx).
  • Serves as back-up technical support person for the form creation and management system (FormFusion).
  • Undertakes quality control review of output of the print management system (e~print).
  • Runs processes to scan optical mark forms (exams and surveys) for faculty members and academic departments.
  • Provides operator support for remaining legacy systems hardware and software applications.

She coordinates hiring and management of student workers for all EIS functions and maintains the student workers budget.

She serves as back-up for the Banner security manager.

She maintains the EIS Web page.

Maggie graduated Glassboro State College in 1989 and has been employed at Rowan University since 1982 as a student worker and in 1988 as a full time staff member.

Terry Mora, Lead Technical Support Specialist

Terry is the primary contact person for the University's FormFusion software package, which allows clients to merge data onto a predefined form using the Banner system. She is the Assistant Administrator of the University's AppWorx (Banner Scheduler). She defines, designs, test and implements university forms. She creates users, module, chains and assist in the training of staff & university clients. She is the Assistant Administrator of the University's Eprints server for the Banner & SCT Plus systems. She defines report definitions, documentation and assist in the training of staff & university clients. Terry is also the liaison for the University’s Duplicating Center. Terry continues to maintain support of Alpha system hardware and software packages.

She has been a member of the University's Banner Data Standards Committee since January 2004. Terry makes recommendations, updates and maintains the manual for the Banner Data Standards Manual. Terry has been an instrumental member of the Rowan University community since 1981.

Gwen’s responsibilities include creating accounts and preparing daily scheduled for the AppWorx Banner jobs. She maintain the Banner staff address database and various information (payroll CD processing, New Hires and SAT downloads). She continues to support the legacy system and insure all SCT Plus systems are available.

Gwen started working as permanent part-time employee of Glassboro State College in 1974 as a Key Punch Operator. Later, the title Key Punch was renamed Data Entry Machine Operator.

Kathleen Karlage is responsible for the data entry, reproduction, bindery and billing of most non web-based orders. She assists in the production of on-line submissions on an as needed basis. Kathleen has developed a desktop library of large documents for easy retrieval and printing primarily for the university bookstore’s orders. She is currently designated as Duplicating/Print Center Services supervisor for student workers; their recruitment, training, scheduling, timesheets and discipline.

Kathleen Karlage has worked in the graphic arts field since 1984 and at Rowan University since 1995.
