Promotion Committee Charge: Supervises the election of college promotion committees, develops procedures for receipt and processing of promotion materials from candidates and college promotion committees, reviews applicant portfolios in light of the procedures established by the institution and the department and approved by the dean, certifies to provost that the procedures have or have not been correctly carried out by both the department and college committees.

2015-16 Promotion Schedule:

  • All candidates with the intent to apply for promotion sign form in Office of the Provost, Bole Hall, indicating the intent to apply for promotion by October 15, 2015
  • Election of department promotion committees and submission of names of committee chairs to University Senate by November 1, 2015
  • Candidates for full professor submit names of external evaluators to department committee and Dean(departments/deans approve names within two (2) weeks of submission) by November 1, 2015
  • College Promotion Committee is formed, Promotion Committee Chairs are selected, and names of committee members are submitted to University Senate by December 1, 2015
  • External evaluators' assessments are received by January 15, 2016
  • Candidates submit folders to Department Chairs by January 15, 2016
  • Department committee concludes work and transmits folders to College Promotion Committee (the candidate should be provided with the department committee's evaluations 48 hours before the due date so that the candidate can provide a response to the evaluation. Folder should include candidate response to evaluation if provided) by February 1, 2016
  • College committee concludes work and transmits folders to Senate office and to Collge Deans (including candidate response to evaluation if provided.) by March 1, 2016.
  • One copy of each candidate's folder due in Senate office by  March 1, 2016 (Note- because March 1 is a Sunday, promotion materials are due in the University Senate Office, 432 Campbell Library by NOON, Friday, February 27th.) 
  • University Senate Promotion Committee concludes work and transmits recommendations to the Provost by April 1, 2016
  • Deans conclude work by April 1, 2016
  • Provost concludes work by May 1, 2016
  • University President concludes work by June 1, 2016
  • Board of Trustees acts on promotion recommendations at regularly scheduled meeting (in June 2016) meeting
