The mission of the Office of Research, directed by the Associate Provost for Research, is to work with faculty and students to develop research, scholarly, and creative activities at Rowan University. The Office includes the Office of Sponsored Programs and conducts research compliance activities by staffing the Institutional Review Board for Human Subject Research, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and the Institutional Biosafety Committee. The Office also advocates the development of intellectual property and the licensing and commercialization of technology developed by faculty and students, and it staffs the Intellectual Property Committee.

The Office promotes research and scholarly activities through advocacy, information distribution, and collaboration with the academic colleges, the administration, the University Senate, and various campus committees.

Opportunities for co-curricular student activity in the college are diverse and include the university radio station (WGLS), newspaper (The Whit), art publications (The Gallery Publication), television network (RTN), magazine (Avant), and literary journal (Asphodel), as well as groups dedicated to anime, art, public relations, advertising, ceramics, film making, art education, and the communication honor society (Lambda Pi Eta).

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences affirms the humanities and social sciences as the core of liberal arts education and the foundation of professional preparation.  The largest of the seven academic colleges within the university, the College houses eight departments, seven interdisciplinary programs and over 25 minors/concentrations as well as the Exploratory Studies Program for students who have not yet chosen a major. The disciplines included within the College—English, Foreign Languages & Literatures, Geography & Environment, History, Law & Justice Studies, Philosophy & Religion Studies, Political Science & Economics, and Sociology & Anthropology—provide a broad foundation of knowledge upon which students can build both professional and personal success.  The College provides a large proportion of general education courses, thus impacting the majority of students who graduate with a Rowan degree.

The College promotes and supports extensive interaction between its faculty, staff and students. Expert faculty and dedicated staff work hard to engage students in active learning both inside and outside the classroom, through individual- and team-based problem-solving, collaborative research, field experiences, internships, short-term study abroad, and other activities. Specifically, it provides professional training in the arts for Majors, and arts curricula and aesthetic experiences open to all students that enhance all of the educational programs at the University. The College consists of the departments of Music, and Theatre & Dance.

In the professional area, the College offers rigorous degree programs that are designed to develop technical and creative abilities to the highest level, as well as provide a comprehensive socio-historical awareness for the Arts practitioner. In the Liberal Arts area, arts curricula are offered that provide extensive study of the fine and performing arts through Minor programs, Concentrations and, for Elementary Education Majors, Coordinate Majors. In these Bachelor of Arts programs, a focus on one particular segment of the arts allows the student to share the diversity of our cultural base and also to gain the perspective, if not the expertise, of the professional artist.

The College of Science and Mathematics consists of seven academic departments – Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Nursing, Physics & Astronomy and Psychology. These departments offer a wide variety of discipline-specific and interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs ranging from pure Mathematics to Biochemistry, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Pre-med Concentration and Software Engineering. The mission of the CSM  is to increase Rowan University’s focus on research and teaching in sciences, mathematics, psychology as well as emerging biomedical fields.  

Among the most unique features of CSM are emphasis on undergraduate student research and development of innovative interdisciplinary graduate programs. Our faculty members are both internationally known scholars and dedicated teachers who bring their research findings to the classrooms thus exposing our students to cutting edge scholarship and applications. We aim to prepare highly trained specialists in a variety of fields of applied sciences and set a strong foundation for our students’ future graduate education.
 
CSM and the new School of Biomedical Sciences www.rowan.edu/open/colleges/sbs(SBS) is focused on developing research and teaching collaboration with the Cooper Medical School at Rowan University. This connection gives our students the unique opportunity to enter health-related fields through a direct exposure to a medical institution.

The College of Graduate & Continuing Education (CGCE) is Rowan University’s vehicle to reach out and serve the needs of individuals with busy personal and professional lifestyles.

The CGCE works with Rowan University’s academic departments to create and offer programs that meet the needs of today’s working professionals and their employers while maintaining the standards and quality of a traditional Rowan education. These offerings include undergraduate and graduate degrees, certifications, professional development and personal enrichment held either in the traditional classroom setting at an accelerated pace, online, or on-site in the evening and weekends.

The college places particular emphasis on offering programs and degrees in growth areas with the strongest employment outlook such as health, education, and service in order to provide the greatest potential for a return on the student’s investment.

In addition to credit education, CGCE offers customized education and training to corporations, school districts, and other for- and not-for-profit agencies and organizations. The college offers Continuing Education Units (CEU) and Professional Development Hours (PDH) in selective areas of study. Rowan University at Camden

Rowan University Camden Campus located in the University District of Camden, New Jersey offers programs and services convenient for the residents of the City of Camden and surrounding counties. Students attending the Camden Campus can take general education courses and complete a full degree program in one of the following majors: Sociology, Elementary Education, and Law and Justice Studies. The university also provides a daily and hourly shuttle between the Glassboro and Camden campuses to allow students from both campuses to take full advantage of the academic offerings of the university in both locations.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program on the Camden Campus is very unique. It provides non-native speakers of the English language with the opportunity to study English, improve their language and academic skills and take Rowan courses at the same time. The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program on the Camden Campus provides students who are financially or academically disadvantaged New Jersey residents the opportunity to pursue a degree. The EOF students are required to attend a summer pre-college program. During the program, students are enrolled in college preparatory and developmental courses. At the end of the summer program students are evaluated for acceptance to the University for the fall semester.

The courses at the Camden Campus are offered in the day and in the evening for a diverse student body. The flexible course scheduling is designed for individuals who may work. In addition, the Camden Campus also has a Childcare facility for those students who may have family responsibilities.

In addition, the Camden Campus offers a limited number of support services in collaboration with the City institutions including the Library and recreation center.

Library Services

Library Services meets the needs of its user community by providing an extensive range of resources and services, which are accessible through several physical libraries and also available through the Library’s Website.

The Keith and Shirley Campbell Library, 118,000 sq. ft. in size, houses more than 350,000 books, documents, multimedia materials, newspapers, and special collections. In addition, the library subscribes to a great number of online periodicals and special information databases to support the diverse academic programs and majors offered by the University.  The full text of nearly 30,000 journal titles is available to the Rowan community.  To ensure the availability of complementary resources, print subscriptions to key academic journals are maintained with extensive back-runs in microfiche, microfilm, and bound volumes. The library provides orientations, tours, and workshops throughout the academic year, including the summer sessions. A 30-workstation lab is available for "hands on" library instruction.

Also located in the Campbell Library is a Government Documents Depository of selected U.S. Federal and State of New Jersey documents, available in both print and microform. The University Archives hold the university’s institutional memory.  Special Collections maintain a variety of resources. The room is named in memory of Frank Stewart, a prominent New Jersey industrialist who donated an extensive and valuable collection of New Jersey historical documents and artifacts.  

The Music Library, located in Wilson Fine and Performing Arts Building, offers resources and services that meet the unique needs of the music students and staff.  The Music Library houses over 20,000 musical scores, audio and video recordings, and a selection of reference books, CDs, music and voice recordings, and similar materials.  Listening equipment is available as well as a study lab.

Rowan students at the Camden Campus have access to all Rowan online resources and, through an arrangement with Rutgers University-Camden, the use of the Robeson Library facilities.
