Office of Research
Welcome from the Associate Provost for Research At Rowan University, faculty are actively engaged in scholarly, research, and creative activities, all of which contribute to the quality of instruction of students inside and out of classrooms. Teaching is the primary expectation of faculty and scholarly activity is also expected. For many faculty, scholarly activity takes the form of research. At Rowan University, we place emphasis on applied research--that is research that is designed to help solve real world problems and can be applied quickly. We also place a high priority on including students as collaborators with faculty on research, with many students sharing authorship of papers and presenting at prestigious conferences as a result of their work with faculty. Our goal is to integrate research and scholarship with teaching to enhance learning opportunities within the Rowan academic community. The mission of the Office of Research, overseen by the Associate Provost for Research, is to work with faculty and students to develop research, scholarly, and creative activities at Rowan University. The Office includes the Office of Sponsored Programs and conducts research compliance activities by staffing the Institutional Review Board for Human Subject Research (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The Office also works to advocate the development of intellectual property and the licensing and commercialization of technology (Technology Transfer) developed by faculty and students, and it staffs the Intellectual Property Committee. The Office promotes research and scholarly activity through advocacy, information distribution, and collaboration with the academic colleges, the administration, the University Senate, and various campus committees.
