Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

The Office of Research Complianceis pleased to inform you that it is implementing an online chemical and biological safety program to educate researchers and their staff on the risks associated with working in a research laboratory, to enhance the culture of laboratory safety at Rowan University and to be in compliance with several laws and regulations. This is a major change in the way training was conducted before. This change relates to the use of new online, web-based training for research using chemical and biological materials.

Do you need to submit an IBC application and protocol?

In order to submit an IBC application and protocol, please click on the link Biosaftey Resources for Rowan Faculty below to enter the website and review information related to submissions and review procedures.

The IBC meetings will take place on the first Thursday of each month during the time of 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM, but in some instances and for the summer, meeting dates may vary. The meetings are located at Rowan University Glassboro Campus, Education Hall, 3rd Floor, Room 3012, Glassboro, NJ 08028. There are instances where the meeting location may change, and if you need to confirm where the meeting location will be, please send an email request to prior to the day of the meeting. Submissions for review must be received via e-mail no later than one week before the meeting date. Submission and meeting dates are listed below:

Please note that since the University is closed between the week of Christmas Day and New Years Day, the submission deadline is roughly two (2) weeks prior to the IBC meeting. Exceptions to include the IBC study in the January 2016 meeting, must be made via email and prior to Monday, January 4, 2016 in order to allow sufficient time for the IBC members to conduct the review. The IBC retains the right to move the IBC application to the February IBC meeting if received after December 22, 2015
