Management Team
Thomas J. Drury, Jr.
Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer
Tom joined South Jersey Technology Park @ Rowan University in March 2007 after a very successful career in the private, for profit sector as an entrepreneur, public technology company CEO, and venture capitalist. His objective in joining Rowan is to bring his many years of experience in the financing, start-up and management of young technology companies to the University, and to leverage his broad base of contacts in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware technology communities towards the accomplishment of Rowan’s strategic mission for SJTP.
Prior to SJTP (2004-2006) Tom was President and CEO of a public (NASDAQ) technology company in Princeton, Voxware, Inc. Voxware provides state-of-the-art speech recognition technology to the worldwide logistics industry. Voxware was Tom’s fourth experience as the CEO of a technology based business. Collectively he has over 20 years experience in this role.
Prior to Voxware, Tom was, and remains today a Partner in BaseCamp Ventures, an early stage venture capital investment partnership. BaseCamp has invested (as lead investor) in eight start-up information technology companies, and assisted these companies to raise significant additional capital through its network of contacts in the regional venture capital, and angelcommunity. Tom served on the Board of the majority of these companies following BaseCamp’s investment.
Prior to BaseCamp, Tom founded one of the highest profile, advanced technology companies in the South Jersey region…Sensar, Inc. Sensar was a commercialization spin-off of the Sarnoff Corporation in Princeton (their first of many spin-offs). Tom raised over $40M in venture funding for Sensar to develop and commercialize a specialized imaging system that would capture a high resolution image of the human iris for purposes of authentication of identity (your iris is like a fingerprint, but hundreds of times more unique). The R&D team that Tom assembled had some of the top robotics and computer vision Ph.D.’s in the world. Sensar launched its first product in 1998 and was recently sold to L1 Identity Solutions, a public company that is now the leader in biometric security technology.
