Nutrition is the process of obtaining food needed for health and growth. But what are the “right” foods? The USDA has changed its nutritional standards. Gone is the pyramid; in is the plate. The following basic guidelines have been established:

•Watch your portions. 1 cup of food is about the size of a baseball, ½ cup is the size of a computer mouse, 3 oz is a deck of cards, and 2 oz is about the size of a ping pong ball.
• Half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables
• Half of your grains should be whole grains (so use the white bread moderately!)
• Switch to skim or 1% milk. Or soy milk.
• Reduce sodium and sugary drinks.
