A Message from the Vice President
for Student Life and Dean of Students

Sexual violence is a significant public health problem in the United States. Rowan University understands during these formative years that Rowan University students are learning how to navigate complex academic and social tasks. Among these tasks are developing appropriate sexual relationships.

Sexual assault is widely considered to be the most underreported violent crime on college and university campuses across the Nation. Most acts of sexual violence on campus are committed by an acquaintance of the victim, which explains, in part, why victims are reluctant to report these occurrences that often impact their educational goals.

The purpose of the Sexual Violence and Prevention Program, and the informative website, is to build and enhance the University Community’s capacity to effectively prevent sexual violence from initially occurring by developing collaborative systems and joint programs that openly address these complex issues.

Once again it is our endeavor as a University Community to prevent sexual violence by promoting positive individual attitudes, healthy relationships, and informed societal attitudes and behaviors regarding sexual violence on campus.
