Position: Costume Assistant, Federal Work Study (FWS)
Department: Theater and Dance
A Costume Assistant's principal duties are to assist in the production of costumes for the Department of Theater and Dance, under the direction of the Costume Shop Supervisor. Additional duties may include: maintenance, organization, and cleaning of the Costume Shop and costume storage areas; Costume Shop and costume stock improvement projects; occasional administrative/clerical duties. The Costume Shop is a warm, welcoming environment where you can acquire new skills, absorb creative ideas, exercise your problem-solving prowess, practice commendable craftsmanship, show off your technical precision, and get to see the costumes you helped prepare eventually come to life on the stage.
You do not have to be a theater/dance major or minor. Previous experience with sewing or other costume production-related skills is helpful, but not required. You will learn on the job. You MUST have Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding in order to apply for this position this year. If you have FWS, it shows up on your financial aid list along with any loans, grants, scholarships, etc.
Salary: $8.00-8.50/hour depending on qualifications
Interviews can begin on Monday, September 9th. When applying, please list some times during Monday-Friday 9am-4:15pm when you could come to the Costume Shop (Bunce Hall, room 140) for an interview. If you are hired, you should expect to work between 7 and 8 hours per week in order to earn your full Federal Work-Study award amount before the end of the academic year. Costume Shop work-study students are expected to set up a regular weekly schedule at the beginning of each semester. Hours may be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 4:15 PM Tuesday through Friday, and between 12:30pm and 4:15pm on Monday. Scheduling hours in the evenings or on weekends is not an option. Scheduling increments may not be less than 2 hours each, nor may they exceed 5 hours each.
