Definition of "Provost"

Imagine, two dictionary definitions and neither even comes close. At Rowan University, the office of the Provost is, in fact, headed by a high-ranking administrative officer who's concerned with curriculum, faculty appointments, etc. But it's so much more. As the University's Chief Academic Officer, Rowan's Provost and his staff maintain the highest academic standards for all undergraduate and graduate programs.

In addition, the Provost oversees Library Information Services, and Rowan at Camden. The Provost also works on behalf of the University regarding its recruitment, appointment, tenure and promotion of academic personnel.

The Provost and his staff also provide oversight and leadership to the Academic Affairs Division regarding the University's mission and goals, and coordinate the University's Strategic Planning process.

Meet the Provost, Dr. James Newell
