Electrical and Computer Engineering - Seeking out new knowledge!
Rowan is one of only eight combined Electrical and Computer Engineering programs in the U.S.
The focus:
Applying electricity, electromagnetism and computer technology to develop a wide-range of products and solutions.
What you'll study:
Computer design, networks and software, digital systems, electronics and electromagnetism, controls, communication and digital processing.
What you'll do:
How about creating a new portable MP3 player or an automated synchronized spinning exercise bike? Current projects: "Smart Lights," funded by five major companies, a team of students designed a "smart" light fixture that measures the life left in streetlights and transmits the data to a hand-held device, a system that can help power companies save money. Or, "Artificial Intelligence," funded by close to $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and ExxonMobil, about a dozen students are looking at ways to use virtual reality and artificial intelligence to ensure the safety of the country's gas transmission pipelines. A team of students are working with the Fox Chase Cancer Center to develop computer software that will allow more accurate reading of mammography films. Or, how about just helping a fellow student by modifying her electric wheelchair for greater access and mobility around campus?
