RU Admissions - ideas in action
RU Ready to Learn More? English - "To be or not to be, that is the question." If you love to read great literature, love to discuss it, love to write about it and if you understand the relevance of such skills to living in an increasingly complicated world, then you'll love being an English major at Rowan University. English is a thriving major experiencing tremendous enrollment growth over the past seven years. Because of our growth, energy and diversity we can offer our majors a wide variety of special opportunities. Among these are our two organizations, the Literary Forum (open to all majors) and a chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honor society. Over the past few years English majors have had the opportunity to study abroad in England and Ireland, either through the University's semester abroad program, or through an intersession literary tour of London and the surrounding countryside. We are big enough to make such programs viable, but small enough that you will never feel like a faceless number. We pride ourselves on preparing you not just to make a living, but also to make a life. The nature of the English program requires that we examine our own life choices and ourselves as we read and discuss literature, making our courses rich in life knowledge, not just literary knowledge. The English major is also a popular choice for aspiring teachers and often pursued along with an Elementary Education degree or Subject Matter Teaching Certification.
