RU Admissions - ideas in action
RU Ready to Learn More? Liberal Studies: Math/Science - The Tech Connection to Our World! With the Math/Science major, you'll focus on mathematics, computer science, the biological sciences, chemistry, and physics-not as isolated disciplines, but as connected areas of study that share certain knowledge, properties and methods. Liberal Studies: Math/Science is "liberal" because it draws its courses from several different departments. By learning to make connections among many disciplines, you'll develop strong critical thinking skills and an in-depth understanding of the scientific enterprise, the uses of technology, scientific ways of knowing, and quantitative methods. The Math/Science major is an excellent coordinate major for students enrolled in the Elementary Education program; covering many of the Core Curriculum Content Standard areas that future teachers will be expected to teach, and ideal training if you want to teach math and science at the kindergarten through grade 8 level. Other Math/Science graduates have entered fields such as science and technology policy, law, information systems, science and technical writing, technology/science related business, sales and marketing, or graduate programs where the understanding of science and math are important.
