RU Admissions - ideas in action
RU Ready to Learn More? Jazz - Inspiration and Innovation! Rowan's Jazz Studies program inspires and challenges the serious jazz artist. All of our faculty members are professional performers themselves, and they have a special dedication to preserving this uniquely American art form while passing it along to others. Most students aspire to become professional performers, to work on the business side of jazz music or teach music. As a student of jazz, you'll have plenty of opportunity to perform with Rowan's small and large jazz ensembles, and study both individually and in small groups with the faculty. The Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies, named for the famed composer and trumpeter, is housed within the department and supports its works. "Everyone teaching in our department is also doingperforming, composing, recording. So we know what it takes to make it professionally. We all help open doors for our students. At the same time, we demand they meet the kind of expectations they are going to face out in the real world." -Professor Denis DiBlasio, Director of Jazz Studies, World-Class Saxophonist
