RU Admissions - ideas in action
RU Ready to Learn More? Subject Matter Education (Kindergarten through Grade 12) In the past, if you wanted to become middle or high school teacher you would major in a subject area—such as math, science, English or history—and pursue a Secondary Teacher Certification. Now, thanks to changes in state licensing requirements, you can enroll in the Subject Matter Education program. This new program allows you to earn two degrees: a bachelor’s degree in your content – or “subject” – area, and a bachelor’s degree in education. By the time you graduate you will be qualified to teach your subject at any level from Kindergarten through grade 12. Not only will you have greater flexibility when entering the job market, but you will also have a better understanding of how children develop as learners. Rowan offers the Subject Education K-12 dual major in: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Science, Physics, Spanish and Theatre/Speech/Dramatic Arts. What will you choose to help mold young minds?
