RESEARCH SUMMARY:
My research focuses on two areas: gender and engineering, and Jewish
identity. As an outgrowth of an NSF grant 2000-2002, I have been studying
the reactions of male and female students to Rowan's engineering program
as they progress through their undergraduate years. Rowan has incorporated
key features which purport to be "female-friendly", and
my research evaluates the success of these features. My research shows
that compared to the male students, female students are as or more
satisfied with engineering at Rowan, female retention is as high or
higher, female's academic achievements are as high or higher-all important
findings when compared to the gender gaps disadvantaging women in
more traditional engineering programs.
My research on Jewish identity focuses on the National Jewish Population
Surveys of 1990 and 2000-1 (just released), studying such topics as
denominational differences, gender differences, and attachment to
Israel of American Jews.
