International Graduate Student Application Process

There are four steps to the application for graduate studies at Rowan. To complete the application process you must do the following:

Step 1: Submit a completed online application along with the admission requirements for your program of interest. http://www.rowancgce.com/admissions/apply

Step 2: A course-by-course credential review from an accredited agency, which evidences all post-secondary studies completed, must be sent directly to our office. We only accept credential reviews from World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), or Josef Silny. Please consult the agency’s website for requirements to complete the evaluation. An official evaluation must be sent from the agency directly to the Division of Global Learning & Partnerships at Rowan University.

Step 3: English Language Proficiency Requirements:
*International applicants are required to submit official copies of successful scores from one of the two tests listed below.
(This requirement is waived for any applicant whose first language is English, any applicant who has been studying or working in the U.S. for two or more years, or whose undergraduate institution uses English as the language of instruction. Other ESL programs do not qualify):

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum required scores are:
o Paper Test: 550 or higher
o Internet Test: 79 or higher
o Computerized Test: 213 or higher

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
o Minimum required score is 6.0

*The Intensive English Language Program (IELP)
IELP is a non-credit program designed for international students who need to improve their academic English proficiency in order to attend university in the United States. This is a five-level non-credit program in which students take classes ranging from Intensive Reading & Writing to American Literature and Oral Presentation Skills. Successful completion of the IELP can be used in lieu of the TOEFL or IELTS tests for admission to a graduate program within CGCE.

Conditional Admission
If you meet all academic requirements for admission into a degree program after submitting a complete application, EXCEPT the language requirement, you will receive a letter of conditional admission from the university which states that you are admitted into the degree program, but you must first successfully complete the Rowan Intensive English Language Program (IELP). Then, you will apply to the IELP by going to www.rowan.edu/camden/esl/internationalstudents.cfm and the IELP will issue you a language training I-20. Upon completion of the IELP, the IELP will transfer your I-20 to the university so you can begin your studies.

If you have NOT yet met the academic requirements for admission, you can still apply to the IELP by going to the link above. And, if you successfully complete the IELP, you do not need to take the TOEFL or IELTs for admission into a degree program. The difference between this and conditional admission is that you are only applying to the IELP and, therefore, will receive an acceptance letter from the IELP, not from the university.

Step 4: I-20 Application Review is conducted by the International Center. In order to obtain a visa, you must be issued an I-20. All F-1 applicants must complete an I-20 Application. We encourage you to begin the I-20 application immediately after submitting the university application. Upon academic acceptance, your I-20 application will be processed.

Please send I-20 application materials by mail or email to the International Center
