Rowan Students to Conduct Environmental Assessment at Alaska Air Force Base
July 20, 2001

Five Rowan University students (four engineering and one biology major) will conduct a demonstration project with Civil and Environmental Engineering professor Dr. Jess Everett at Elmendorf Air Force Base, outside Anchorage, Alaska, in July and August.

The students will collect soil and water samples as a part of an Air Force-funded $375,000 project that in part will evaluate how well and how quickly two sites are naturally cleaning themselves up after fuel spills/leaks.

This is the second such project the students will conduct this summer. Presently, they are analyzing samples they obtained from a similar project in Oklahoma earlier this summer.

The students are Katherine Brozina, Millville; Gregory McGrath, Williamstown; Julie Oropallo, Audubon; Bradley Summerville, Pitman; and Daniel Zelechoski, Toms River.
