One of the things I love about Rowan is the way I’m able to make connections with other students. In my past few semesters at Rowan I’ve made friends with a number of classmates, friendships which have continued on after we were no longer in classes together. Back in high school I always had trouble making friends, but the community at Rowan has been extremely warm and welcoming.
Getting together with friends on campus is easy with all of the facilities available for student use. Sometimes it’s simply hanging out in the student lounge areas in each building; there’s plenty of comfortable places around campus where students can relax, hang out, and study together when we have time off in between classes. Other times we get together in the student center, which has several good places to eat, a coffee bar, and a large central lounge area where students get together every day. There’s also various events at the student center, such as movie nights.
Downtown Glassboro also offers a bunch of great places right around the corner from Rowan. There’s a wide variety of restaurants and shopping centers, many of which accept payment via the Rowan Boro Bucks meal plan.
One of the things I really love, though, is how friendly the professors at Rowan are. I often stay after class just to keep talking to them, often about things unrelated to class. As a writer, I’ve found a lot of my professors are really interested in hearing about my writing projects, and about my plans for after graduation. Some of the professors I got to know so well that I went out of my way to enroll in more of their classes in the future. It’s great to walk into a new class on the first day of the semester with a professor who already knows me by name and remembers working with me the previous semester.
I’m hoping to be able to maintain these connections even after graduation. Social networks are a great help for that, since even if there’s a friend I don’t see face to face as often as I’d like, I can still keep in touch with them on Facebook or Twitter.
