Surgical Emphasis Program
The University offers a surgical emphasis internship that allows medical students interested in surgery the opportunity to interview to be linked to the general surgery program. Successful candidates will be offered PGY I and PGY II contracts in general surgery. This negates the need to reapply as a PGY II candidate.
Currently there are six funded surgery emphasis positions available each year. During the course of the PGY I year, the general surgical interns will be on six months of surgical services (general surgery and/or surgical subspecialties). The remaining months the intern will rotate through various departments, thereby fulfilling the AOA intern requirements.
Surgical emphasis residents are treated as part of the surgical team and are required to attend all surgical conferences, journal clubs and CME programs sponsored by the department.
All inquiries regarding the Surgical Emphasis Internship should be directed to Sheila Seddon in the Graduate Medical Education Office (856) 566-6096
From Our Residents
"Our residency is among the best whether allopathic or osteopathic. We receive a great education. Our Clinical and operating skills, by the time we graduate, are excellent." Our attendings are great teachers as well as great mentors."
Alex Morales, DO
"I have seen how other surgical programs train their residents and have worked with a variety of graduates and residents in the largest medical center in the world. I would put RowanSOM up against any of these. The training is well-rounded, the academics are solid and the surgical experience is outstanding. I consider it an honor to have been trained by this program."
