Interprofessional education has been part of the educational experience at the School of OsteopathicMedicine since 2009. At that time Interprofessional Grand Rounds were established by the Stratford Campus Inter-School Collaboration Group at UMDNJ. Since then Interprofessional Grand Rounds have been held twice a year as an opportunity for healthcare professionals to work together and to present their contributions as part of collaborative care. Recent grand rounds have explored interprofessional approaches to a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, to the care of a child with autism and to patient safety.
The interprofessional task force was established in January 2013. This was the result of Dean Cavalieri’s participation on the IPEC Expert Panel and the desire to increase interprofessional education and practice at School of Osteopathic Medicine. The original iteration of the task force included members from SOM and the UMDNJ health profession schools on the Stratford Campus. The group was reconstituted during the 2014 academic year as a Faculty Learning Committee that focuses on interprofessional collaboration between the three Rowan campuses.
