Matt Novin is the current director for the Music Medicine program for 2015-2016. Matt is a fourth year student at Rowan-SOM and graduated from Drexel University in 2012 with a degree in Biological Sciences. Matt has played piano since 2nd grade and also played baritone horn in band during grade school. Matt volunteers 1:1 piano lessons for patients with chronic diseases.

Scott Ventre is the current Assistant Director of the Music Medicine Program for 2015-2016 school year at RowanSOM. Scott is a second year medical student and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013 with a degree in biomedical sciences in bioengineering. Scott started playing the drums when he was very young and continued until middle school, when he started taking an interest in vocal music. From there, he sang in and musically directed numerous vocal performance groups in high school and college and continues to do so as the music director of the RowanSOM Pacemakers A Cappella Group. Scott also provides vocal lessons and is greatly looking forward to helping the program expand further into the school and our community.

Alec Moran is the current Treasurer of the Music Medicine Program for the 2014-2015 school year at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Alec is a third year medical student at Rowan-SOM and graduated from first Brookdale Community College and then subsequently Rutgers University, New Brunswick with a degree in Exercise Physiology. Alec grew up playing piano but now provides mandolin lessons through the program. He also finds time to write music infused with a folky twist. Alec is looking forward to seeing the program continue to grow and expand its reach throughout the school and into the community.

Ryan Richstein, a second year at Rowan SOM, is the Marketing Manager of the Music Medicine Program for the 2015-2016 academic year. He graduated from Rutgers University - New Brunswick in 2012 with a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience. Ryan began playing alto saxophone and piano in 1999 and soon after began learning trumpet and guitar in addition. Ryan is excited to be working with patients and students through the Music Medicine Program.

Hollis Redmon is the current secretary of the Music Medicine Program for 2015-2016. Hollis is a second year medical student at Rowan-SOM and graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2012 with a degree in Anthropology. Hollis has been singing for fifteen years and has been a member of many choirs and musical theater programs prior to beginning medical school. She hopes to continue her love of song through the Music Medicine Program and provide needed pain relief to patients.

Ricky Barnum is the Events Coordinator for the Music Medicine Program. Ricky is a third year medical student at RowanSOM, and graduated from Fordham University in 2013 with a Biological Sciences major. He has been playing alto saxophone and performing in organized school bands for 13 years. Ricky plans to pursue a career in sports medicine.

Past Leadership

Drew Isleib is the founder of the Music Medicine Program. Prior to medical school Drew was a touring musician with numerous albums. He graduated in 2014 and is doing his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilatation at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Drew will be involved in the program and will offer a song writing course to students and patients.

Chet Jeurkar was the director of the Music Medicine Program for 2014-2015. Chet was a medical student at Rowan-SOM and graduated from the College of New Jersey in 2010 with a degree in Biological Sciences. Chet started playing the guitar in 2008 and has become active in song writing and performing since. He is currently pursuing an residency in internal medicine at Temple University.

Kimberly Barnum was the former Marketing Director for the Music Medicine program. Kim, now an intern at Overlook Hospital Family Medicine Residency, has been playing violin for sixteen years. Prior to medical school, she attended Fordham University, where she majored in Biology and played in the chamber orchestra.

April Barnum was the former Events Coordinator for the Music Medicine Program. April is currently pursuing a family medicine residency at Brown University. She grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. Prior to medical school, she attended Fordham University in the Bronx, NY and in 2011, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. During her 4 years of living in New York City, she was a cellist in the Fordham University Orchestra. April plays both the acoustic cello and the electric cello and has been performing for 17 years.
