njgecThe New Jersey Geriatric Education Center (NJGEC), established in 1990, is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions (DHHS-HRSA, BHPr). Its mission is to provide interprofessional education and training experiences in geriatrics for health professionals, faculty, students, and health care personnel of multiple disciplines.

Administratively housed within the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging, the NJGEC develops and disseminates curricula and related resources on aging and clinical care; provides both didactic and clinical training for health care practitioners, faculty, and students; supports continuing education of health care professionals who provide geriatric care statewide; provides students with clinical geriatrics training in ambulatory settings, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, and a home care program; and offers technical assistance and consultation in geriatrics program development.

The strength of the NJGEC is built on collaborations with the New Jersey Long Term Care Leaders Coalition, New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, the Quality Improvement Organization (Health Care Quality Strategies, Inc.), the Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) and other health care organizations.
