As the Director of the Research Animal Facility, Dr. Lipitz is responsible for the proper management of the Vivarium and all animal related activities conducted at UMDNJ-SOM. He supervises and directs the animal care personnel, formulates, augments and budgets the fiscal aspects of the facility, consults with investigators concerning research projects, advises the Dean for Research, sits as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and represents the University in activities concerning biomedical research.
Bertram Lipitz, DVM was appointed to the position of Director of the Research Animal Facility and Attending Veterinarian in September 2000. Dr. Lipitz had been the consulting veterinarian for the Vivarium of the University of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Osteopathic Medicine, since July 1, 1990.
Positions and Honors
- Teaches Laboratory Animal Science in the GSBR program.
- Member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at Camden County College, and the Animal Science Technology Advisory Committee for Camden County College.
- Member of the Advisory Committee for the Veterinary Technician Program at Penn Foster College, and Chairs the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for the program.
- Former member of the Executive Board of the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association and is currently an emeritus member of the organization.
