Guidelines for Students using Tutorial Services

  1. Students signing up for small group tutoring are making a commitment to use this service. Due to the large number of requests for tutors, it is important that students attend all scheduled sessions. If unable to attend a scheduled session, it is the student’s responsibility to use RSN to cancel the appointment at least one hour prior to start of session. RSN notifies the tutor via email. Once a student has missed 2 sessions without prior notice, he/she will need to meet with the Coordinator before self-scheduling a tutoring session. Repeat offenders will have their tutoring sessions cancelled.
  2. Tutoring is not a substitute for going to class, doing homework or studying. Please do not ask the tutors to do your work for you.
  3. Your tutor is knowledgeable in the subject, but he/she is not the professor. If the tutor does not know the answer to your question, he/she will be able to help you find the answer by helping you formulate a question so you can then ask the professor for clarification.
  4. Tutoring is most effective when you come prepared. Bring notes, textbooks and any work-in-progress. Have specific questions prepared for the tutor and be sure to read assigned material and attempt some problems before you come to the sessions.
  5. If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the service expected from the tutor, please contact the coordinator at 856-256-4462.
