First Appointment

Making an appointment at Counseling & Psychological Services is easy. Simply call or visit the office at our location on campus in The Wellness Center at Winans Hall, next to the Chamberlain Student Center. Our contact information is located on the right side of the screen along with our hours of operation.

What to Expect
At your first appointment with a counselor, you will meet for approximately 30 minutes to review concerns, learn about our services and learn about other resources. The purpose of this appointment is to assess your needs and provide you with information about the services we offer. Based on information presented, the counselor will make recommendations that may include individual or group counseling, further evaluation or referral to other services on or off campus.

Those individuals seeking services earlier in the semester are more likely to be assigned for services within Counseling & Psychological Services. As the semester progresses, an individual’s likelihood of being referred for mental health treatment outside the university generally increases due to the high demand for services and formation of a wait list on a first-come, first-served basis. Should a wait list form, Counseling and Psychological Services works to assist individuals seeking treatment through referral to local providers in the community. Regardless of time of the year, semester, or wait list status, any individual in crisis is encouraged to contact Counseling & Psychological services for a triage appointment. During business hours please contact the Center at 856-256-4333, where our staff will assist you in meeting with one of our counselors. After business hours, please contact Public Safety at 856-256-4922 and request to speak to the counselor on call.

Change in provision of services effective September 1, 2015: In efforts to meet the counseling needs of more Rowan University students, CPS will begin limiting sessions to twelve (12) annually. This will apply to most students with the understanding that some clinical situations will require additional sessions. Depending on the nature of the clinical situations students will continue their services at CPS or may be referred for outside care. Any questions or concerns students may have about session limits can be addressed with their ongoing therapist or triage therapist.
