Leadership Application and Organizational Effectiveness
About Leadership Application & Organizational Effectiveness
Students participating in Leadership Application and Organizational Effectiveness experiences will gain an improved understanding of:
- Characteristics of Effective Leadership: Students will examine and enhance their ability to use effective leadership tools with others, including such skills as teambuilding, effective communication, motivating others, demonstrating respect and integrity, practicing active listening, and understanding the balance between challenge and support.
- Organizational Management and Development: Leading others requires understanding the concepts of organizational development, visioning, group dynamics, goal-setting, processes and procedures, role modeling, delegation of responsibilities and accountability. Students will have the opportunity to explore how these concepts are used to create successful group experiences.
- Leadership Experiences: Through self-selected leadership opportunities, students will apply their learning through demonstrated use of appropriate leadership styles, self and group management techniques, and leadership skills to educate, empower and enrich their lives and those of the University community.
A focus for Leadership Application and Organizational Effectiveness experiences will be for students to further explore and begin applying relevant leadership theories & frameworks. Students will be challenged to begin developing a personal leadership statement.
Leadership Application & Organizational Effectiveness Experiences
Students can earn Leadership Application & Organizational Effectiveness Certification by completing one or more of the following experiences:
TORCH student organization development series
TORCH is a workshop series for student organization members to improve skills necessary in great groups. The series is presented by our Leadership Mentors, and will run at 9 pm in the Student Center, Room 129. Attend all 5 sessions to automatically earn the "Leadership Application & Organizational Effectiveness" certification!
Monday, February 25 - "Knowing Yourself" - Learn about your own personality, as well as ways to successfully work with others who may have different characteristics. Explore ways to work through conflict and build strong relationships within your organization.
Tuesday, March 5 - "Event Planning" - Tips and hints on how to plan a successful event, including how to book the meeting space. logistics, and ideas for running the event day of.
Wednesday, March 13 - "Exploring Social Media and the Internet" - How can you use social media to influence your club/organization? Explore ways in which can the Internet work as a tool.
Wednesday, March 27 - "Multiculturalism and Diversity" - Discuss ways to enhance multiculturalism and diversity within your organization, while learning about and exploring different cultures.
Monday, April 1 - "Leadership Trivia Night" - Earn fun prizes by answering questions about Rowan, leadership, and information related to the previous workshops in the Torch series!
Portfolio Review
Students can partner with a leadership mentor to validate their achievement through review of their co-curricular portfolio. Portfolios should thoroughly describe a variety of activities that demonstrate successful completion of program requirements.
