About Transfer Orientation

Transfer Orientation for students beginning classes in the fall term will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011. An optional Parent & Family Orientation program is held concurrently with Transfer Student Orientation, but students and their parents & adult family members will follow separate orientation schedules.

Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in Esby Gym and orientation programming will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m.

All new students are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation program. Students transferring to Rowan with less than 30 credits are required to attend orientation. If you are unable to attend the on-campus orientation program on Thursday, June 16, you will be sent information about our online orientation program in July. You must complete orientation (online or in-person) before you register for spring term classes.

If you previously attended Rowan, you are not required to attend orientation, but are encouraged to do so to learn about any policies that may have changed or new resources available to you.

If you have already registered for classes, we encourage you to attend orientation to meet other students, learn about campus resources, and fulfill any orientation requirements (see above). If you have already registered for classes, the Peer Referral and Orientation Staff (PROS) will assist you in completing other campus business (such as placing your textbook order, getting your RowanCard ID, etc.) while other students are registering.

Attending Transfer Orientation 2011

Students who have confirmed their admission to Rowan University for the fall term 2011 will receive an invitation to attend Transfer Student Orientation. Students are asked to check with their parents & family members to see if they would like to attend Parent & Family Orientation, and then reserve a spot at orientation online beginning May 2.

Basic Skills/Placement Test Requirements:
Transfer Students with less than 30 credits who are not transferring credits for college level math or reading are required to take Placement Exams. If you did not indicate any necessary accommodations when you registered for orientation, please contact our office immediately; some arrangements take at least two weeks to arrange. You may also want to contact the Academic Success Center to discuss your needs for the upcoming academic year (856-256-4259).

Incoming students should view the Banner Registration Tutorial prior to orientation online. This tutorial will introduce you to the services available through Banner, including course registration. Your academic advisors will expect that you are comfortable using Banner to search for classes when you meet with them at orientation. See more registration information.

Orientation Expectations

We expect students to make their own reservations for orientation (and to make the parent & family reservations as well). Students are responsible for creating their Rowan University computing account and keeping this information safe and secure. Students should not share this information with anyone in order to protect the confidentiality of student records. See the complete Acceptable Use Policy for more information.

It is our goal for students to build a relationship with their advisors as well as learn the necessary skills to register on their own in future terms. Therefore, we expect students to register for classes with the assistance of the professional academic advisors only, and not their parents or family members.
