Orientation and Student Leadership Programs

New Student Orientation

Undergraduate Orientation Requirement

All incoming freshmen and transfer students beginning classes in the spring term must complete an orientation program. If you did not complete one of the on-campus orientation programs you will have an Orientation Requirement hold on your student account. Meeting with your advisor or attending a CAAdE Transfer Workshop is not the same as attending University orientation. A University orientation program (either in-person or online) is required for all new students.

Ultimately, we want to make sure that you are aware of the University resources available to you as a new student. If you have any questions about Rowan University, please contact our office at 856-256-4041 or stop by Savitz Hall suite 203 (Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students) and we will assist you or connect you to the appropriate resource.

To resolve this hold:

  1. Use our online reservation system or contact the Office of Orientation & Student Leadership Programs at (856) 256-4041 to enroll in the online orientation program.
  2. The online orientation course will be available to you in Blackboard beginning January 22. You can log in to Blackboard with your network ID (the first part of your e-mail address prior to @students.rowan.edu) and password.
  3. Select "Spring Orientation" from the "My Courses" box on the right side of the screen.
  4. Within the "Spring Orientation" course, view the "STEP UP" and "Academics" sections to learn about University resources & services.
  5. When ready, select "Complete Orientation Requirements" and item "3. Test Your Understanding". You must earn at least 16 points on the test to fulfill your orientation requirement. The test can be repeated until successfully completed.
  6. Once you have successfully completed online orientation, please e-mail us your name and student ID number. We will verify your score and remove your hold. It may take up to one business day for the hold to be released.
  7. You can verify that the hold has been removed in Self Service Banner, when viewing holds “No holds exist on your record.” will appear.

Holds can be viewed through Self-Service Banner by:

  1. Accessing Banner Services with your ID number and PIN.
  2. Select the "Student" tab.
  3. Select "Student Records".
  4. Select "View Holds".

You may have multiple holds on your account. If you have other holds, follow the instructions listed for more information on how to remove those holds.

Please attend to this hold as soon as possible so you can register for fall 2013 classes during your assigned early registration period. Contact the Office of Orientation & Student Leadership Programs at 856-256-4041 if you have any questions.
