      • This workshop is designed to assist future practitioners in professional preparation and development.
      • Students may choose from one of two tracks, depending on whether they are beginning their career exploration or seeking immediate job-search skills.
      • Interactive sessions by experienced professionals will provided an enlightening foundation and applicable tools for a successful conference.
      • A meeting with the NIRSA Board of Directors will be included, along with guidance on using the NIRSA Foundation Career Opportunities Center, presented by Star Trac.

"NIRSA 101"
  • NIRSA 101: You Are Pure Potential
    • The focus of this track will be on engaging in self-analysis of strengths & opportunities for growth. It will include input on how to take advantage of opportunities in the development of knowledge about the field as well as incorporating them into a career plan.
    • Learning Outcomes for 101 Track
      • Participants will engage in a self-assessment of personal and professional individual strengths and areas for growth.
      • Participants will gain insight into the contributions that their individual strengths can make as part of a team.
      • Participants will develop basic strategies for career exploration and preparation.

  • NIRSA 301: Turning Your Passion Into Your Career
    • The focus of this track will be on assisting those who are in the midst of a job search to be prepared for interviews & their first positions. We will provide information to assist in the immediate job search process as well as take them beyond the search process with knowledge & information for new professionals.
    • Learning Outcomes for the 301 Track
      • Participants will gain tips for conducting a successful job search.
      • Participants will learn effective interview preparation techniques through actual mock interviews.
      • Participants will develop strategies for success once the graduate assistant or professional position has been secured.

"A New Practitioner’s Guide to..."
  • A New Practitioner’s Guide to Sport Clubs          8:30am -2:30pm     Cost:  $45.00
    • $75 after Feb. 20
  • Are you new to the arena of sport clubs? If so, then this workshop is tailor-made for you. It will provide all attendees with the basics of sport clubs, including budgeting, risk management, disciplinary procedures, and creating a handbook. Attendees will learn from seasoned experts about the nuts and bolts of a basic sport club program and how to implement these ideas on their campuses.
  • Session Learning Objectives:
    • Learn about sport club programming with specific detail in areas of establishing policies, budgeting, handling disciplinary issues, managing risk, working with National Governing Bodies, training officers and leaders, and accessing tools of success.
    • Understand and be able to apply the basic principles of effectively managing a sport club program.
    • Discuss the ideas presented regarding sport clubs, and how they may be able to tailor these to meet the needs of their own individual campuses.

  • Volleyball Officiating       8:30am-3:00pm, lunch included                 Cost:  $65.00
    • $95.00 after Feb. 20
  • Join some of the most knowledgeable and respected clinicians in the volleyball officiating world in this interactive workshop that will "train the trainers" to officiate volleyball. This workshop will provide the participants with the resources to develop a comprehensive program on their own campus.
  • Session Learning Objectives:
    • Learn the basic rules associated with officiating volleyball.
    • Learn the basic mechanics associated with officiating volleyball.
    • Learn the skills necessary to administer a comprehensive volleyball officials training program at your institution.

  • Join members of the Softball Committee in an interactive workshop that will teach the teachers how to become more effective instructors of softball umpires. This workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and resources to create a training and development program on their own campuses.

    • Learn the basic rules associated with umpiring softball.
    • Learn the basic mechanics for plate and field umpires.
    • Learn the skills needed to administer a comprehensive sports officials training program at your institution.

  • A New Direction in University Aquatics   8:30am-1pm; lunch included
    • Cost: $45.00
    • $75.00 after Feb. 20
  • This workshop focuses on discussion of obstacles overcome in the programming and creation of a student-focused aquatic facility at The University of Texas at Austin. Understand the thought process of the University and how their conclusions for this unique facility may influence future trends in collegiate recreational aquatics.
  • Session Learning Objectives:
    • Learn what prompted the specific development and planning for this facility, and understand the driving factors in its final design.
    • Gain a unique understanding of this facility and comprehend its unique offerings for the University of Texas campus community.
    • See why this unique facility is trend-setting in the collegiate market, and understand its implication on the future of collegiate recreational aquatics.

      • The NIRSA Foundation is pleased to present the 14th Annual NIRSA Foundation Golf Tournament
        • Jimmy Clay Golf Club and Roy Kizer Golf Course
          • A terrific 36 hole venue 15 minutes from downtown Austin.

          • Professional player: $85
            $95 after March 7, 2008
          • Student player: $65
            $75 after March 7, 2008
        • Since 1994, tournament proceeds benefiting the NIRSA Foundation have reached over $52,000.
      • Transportation will be provided.

  • With more than 70 educational sessions featuring a plethora of categories such as fitness, aquatics, intramural sports, marketing, outdoor recreation, sport clubs, informal recreation and facilities, you'll wonder how we got the entire conference packaged into just four days!
  • CEUs and CECs can be obtained through many of our sessions.
  • To receive CEU/CEC credit participants must:
    • Register for CEUs/CECs, attend, and participate in the entire session.
    • Have the session monitor/instructor sign the CEU/CEC participation form.
    • Complete and sign a session evaluation.
    • Send a copy of the signed CEU/CEC Participation Form to the NIRSA National Center for IACET CEUs, and/or send a copy to ACE for CECs. Contact and mailing information is included on the CEU/CEC participation form.
    • Learning objectives are given in appropriate session descriptions and included in the registration materials.

    • All Student Members of NIRSA receive complimentary access to the COC
    • Register On-site
      • It is recommended that you register for the Career Opportunities Center while registering for the NIRSA Annual Conference. Registration as a candidate will secure you a candidate mailbox in the COC.
    • Check-In at the COC
      • After you have checked-in at the Conference Registration area and received your namebadge, come to the COC to check-in and activate your candidate box at the Career Opportunities Center.
        • Messages from Employers cannot be forwarded until your box becomes active.
    • All non-members and NIRSA Professional Members can pay a nominal fee for access to the COC during the Annual Conference.

      • You will have a mailbox in the Candidate section of the COC. This will allow you to correspond with the Employer mailboxes by leaving your resume and notes for Employers registered in the COC.
      • Be aware not every university or business advertising on bluefishjobs.com will have a mailbox at the COC.  You may wish to ask the volunteers working in the COC employer mailbox area to verify if a particular employer has obtained a mailbox in the COC.
    • You will need to show your conference nametag to check your mailbox at the COC.
    • Employers will place items in your mailbox after you correspond with them about positions.
