Dr. Harley E. Flack Student Mentoring Program
Sisterlinks or Focused Peers Benefits and Responsibilities
Upon advancement as a Peer-Mentor, participants will be assigned a Faculty/Staff Mentor, and will be required to complete a Mentor/Mentee Contract. Participation benefits and requirements at this level will be as follows:
Peer-Mentor Benefits
- Public recognition as a peer-mentor and awarded a certificate at the fall opening ceremony with the titles of Ujima Sisterlinks or Focused Peers to designate participation in Ujima or the male component accordingly.
- Eligible for paid employment with the mentoring program office.
Peer-Mentor Responsibilities
In order to participate at this level and to be in good standing with the mentoring program,
Peer-Mentors MUST be willing to serve for a full academic year and will:
- Complete a Mentor/Mentee Contract along with their Faculty or Staff Mentor in which they will outline a set of clear achievable short term goals for the course of academic year.
- Respond in a timely manner to correspondence from the mentoring program office and from their peer-mentor.
- Meet with their Faculty/Staff Mentors at least 4 times during the course of each semester.
- Discuss frankly with their Faculty/Staff Mentors any issues or problems they may be facing in order to get support in resolving such challenges and will make use of student support services appropriately.
- Attend Peer-Mentor training at the beginning of each semester.
- Meet with their mentees (First year students) once a week in their first semester and twice a month in their second semester.
- Attend and encourage their mentee to attend all appropriate program meetings, workshops and activities.
- Submit Peer-Mentor/Mentee Meeting Logs at each at each monthly meeting documenting their meetings with mentees.
Advancement Requirements
- Completion of the above requirements.
- A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00.
- Completion of a Project Coordinator Application
