Rowan class on forensics stages mock excavation

Gloucester County Times
October 31, 2004

The yellow crime-scene tape was the first clue that something was amiss at the campus of Rowan University on Saturday morning.

The hole being dug by investigators and others searching the open area and adjoining wooded lot for evidence of a crime did nothing to lessen the appearance that all was not well.

But appearances can be deceiving.

The excavation was being performed by students of the university's new forensic anthropology class. This was the first hands-on activity of the year where Diane Markowitz and Maria Rosado, the professors who developed the course, had students excavate a crime scene where a tip was given that a body had been buried.
