Rowan Co-Hosts National Astronomy Day ActivitiesApril 06, 2005
The South Jersey Astronomy Club (SJAC), the Rowan Department of Physics and
Astronomy, and the Edelman Planetarium will co-host a celebration of National Astronomy Day on Saturday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the lobby of Science Hall on the Rowan campus.
Astronomy Day is intended to allow the public to connect up with experts in the field, to get answer to questions about telescopes and stargazing, and to see what local astronomical resources are available.
The SJAC will conduct workshops on how to choose a telescope and how to safely observe the sun. The Department of Physics and Astronomy will conduct tours of its 16-inch telescope and will allow daytime observation of the planet Venus if weather conditions permit. The planetarium will hold brief demonstrations on how to find constellations and bright stars in the sky.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the planetarium office at 856-256-4389. A schedule of events is posted on the planetarium Web site, http://www.rowan.edu/planetarium/.
