Rowan Hosts Women's Studies ColloquiumJanuary 24, 2006
Rowan University's Women's Studies Program will host "Dangerous Liaisons," the Second Annual New Jersey Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Colloquium. This student research event will be held at Rowan University in the Student Center Ballroom on Friday, February 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The consortium will feature guest speaker Patricia White, associate professor, English Literature Chair, Film and Media Studies at Swarthmore College. She will present "Women's Cinema as Art Cinema:
Transnational Feminism and the Politics of Film Exhibition." In addition, selected undergraduate and graduate students from Rowan and seven other New Jersey universities and colleges will present scholarly and creative works on suggested topics including sexuality, feminism, subversion and political change.

Founded in 1974, the Women?s Studies program at Rowan is one of the oldest in the nation. The program
examines the status, perspectives and contributions of women and interaction between gender and other socialidentities. Both classroom-based and public educational activities are designed to broaden understanding of gender and diversity issues in education, in institutional culture and in the society at large.
