A Message from Dr. Farish, 10/28

October 28, 2007

Dear University Community,

It is with deep regret that I inform you that a Rowan University sophomore from Boonton, Donald Farrell, passed away this morning as a result of an assault near the corner of Rt. 322 and Bowe Blvd. Saturday evening. A resident of Beau Rivage, Mr. Farrell was walking toward Triad Apartments with friends when the group was approached by several men who asked about nearby parties. Within seconds, the men severely beat and robbed Mr. Farrell. His companions and witnesses called police, and Rowan officers were on the scene within 90 seconds. Our student EMT squad responded and revived Mr. Farrell twice on the way to the hospital. When they arrived at the Cooper Trauma Center he was put on life support. We learned from the Gloucester County prosecutor’s office Sunday afternoon that Mr. Farrell passed away.

Tragedies like this shatter our sense of security. In the coming days we will learn more about the situation and, we hope, apprehend the assailants. I encourage everyone to continue to be vigilant about safety.

Counseling and support services are available to all members of the university community through Rowan Counseling & Psychological Services in Savitz Hall (256-4222).

Please keep the Farrell family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Donald J. Farish
President
