Panel to explore role of principal over last 40 years
March 25, 2008Educational leaders from throughout South Jersey will come together at Rowan University on Monday, March 31, for a discussion on how the role of the principal has changed over the past 40 years.
Titled "The Evolving Nature of the Principalship: 1967 to 2007," the symposium will run from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 3091 of Rowan's Education Hall. The event, which is sponsored by the College of Education and its Educational Leadership Department, is free and open to the public.
The symposium is part of the University's Hollybush Lecture Series, a year-long series of lectures and events commemorating the 40th anniversary of the historic Summit at Hollybush, which was held on Rowan's campus in 1967.
During the symposium, participants will discuss similarities and differences in the challenges they have faced in the principalship. They'll also explore how principal preparation programs have changed through the years.
Panelists will include Rowan faculty members who have prepared students for principal licensure, alumni who have gone on to become principals, and principals who led schools during the 1960s.
For additional information about the symposium, contact David Hespe, chair of the Educational Leadership Department, at 856-256-4702 or hespe@rowan.edu.
