Rowan Percussion Ensemble concert features faculty guests

The Rowan Percussion Ensemble shares the stage with faculty guest artists on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 8 pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall.

Under the direction of Dean Witten, the Ensemble is joined by guest faculty conductor Andrea Lustig and a faculty soloist, drummer Jim Miller. The program features Miller on Ed Vezinho’s No Pain No Gain; Lustig leading John Alfieri’s Legend of The Sleeping Bear and Theodore Wiprud’s Dark Love; and the Ensemble performing Daniel Levitan’s Septet.

The Percussion Ensemble includes Froebel Amarillas, Jaren Angud, Brandon Blackburn, Eric Carr, Megan Cooney, Anthony DiBartolo, Matthew DiDonna, Anthony Graves, Jennifer Kane, Jeremy Lowe, Joshua Simpkins and John Szachewicz.

Witten, a Vineland resident, has been a professor and Director of Percussion Studies at Rowan since 1979. As a performer, he has given the world premieres of more that 30 works. He has performed with the New York Chamber Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Guild, among many others. Equally successful in the popular music arena, Witten toured the world as a member of Frank Sinatra’s orchestra for nearly eight years. He has also performed with Harry Connick, Jr., Celine Dion and in countless Broadway orchestras.

Pfleeger Concert Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. For directions or additional information, call the box office at (856) 256-4545.
