Information for media covering Commencement 2008

The following information is for members of the media covering Rowan University's Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 16:

Prior to the 10 a.m. ceremony, members of the media covering Commencement should obtain media passes from Dottie Comer in the President's Office on the first floor of Bole Hall, right off the University Green. Media passes will give photographers access to restricted areas during the ceremony. During graduation, Barbara Baals will be available to provide assistance to reporters and photographers. Dottie Comer will serve as the "emergency" contact. She can be reached in the President's Office or at (856) 256-4240.

Photographers/camera people will be permitted in front of the staging area during Commencement. Please be as unobtrusive as possible in obtaining your shots during the ceremony. Cameras are not permitted on stage or in Bunce Hall.

Reporters are welcome to interview graduates as they line up. No interviews with graduates or others participating in graduation will be permitted for the duration of the Commencement ceremony.

Media are encouraged to arrive early and to park on side streets off Whitney Avenue, which runs along the front of Bole Hall and the University Green. The University's Public Safety staff will work to accommodate parking for television vans.

Due to high traffic volume in Glassboro on Commencement day, media are encouraged to use Exit 48 off Route 55 to get to campus.
Please note that Route 322, from Bowe Boulevard to Main Street in Glassboro, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Commencement.

The University hopes to hold the ceremony outside. However, plans will change in the event of heavy rain or lightning. In that case, individual college ceremonies will be held indoors at various locations at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with ceremonial proceedings such as the Commencement address broadcast from Wilson Hall to all other locations. The University will announce changes due to inclement weather starting at 7 a.m. on Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM and KYW-AM (1060). You also may visit www.rowan.edu for information.

Ceremonies for the University's individual colleges will begin 20 minutes after the conclusion of the main ceremony. Locations of the ceremonies are as follows: William G. Rohrer College of Business: Esbjornson Gymnasium; College of Communication: Student Recreation Center; College of Education: John Page Field; College of Engineering: Rowan Hall Green; College of Fine and Performing Arts: W. Clarke Pfleeger Concert Hall in Wilson Hall; College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: University Green.
