Elmer resident earns doctorate from Rowan

June 03, 2008

Elmer resident George Brelsford became the fourth member of his family to earn a degree from Rowan University when he received his doctorate in educational leadership from the University on May 15.

Brelsford, who serves as dean of students and associate vice president for student affairs at Rowan, received his doctorate during Rowan's Graduate Commencement. His doctoral dissertation was titled "A Unique Approach to Community Service: Seeing Eye Puppies in Residence."

Brelsford and his wife, Robin, also a Rowan alumna, are co-leaders of Rowan University's Forward to Freedom (RUFF) program, in which students raise puppies that become guide dogs for The Seeing Eye, Inc.

Brelsford's son, Todd, and his daughter, Kelly, are both Rowan alumni. Son Cory is currently an undergraduate student at Rowan.

Brelsford earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Davis & Elkins College (1980) and his master’s degree in counseling/student personnel services from Pennsylvania State University (1987).
