College students ride free on NJ TRANSIT September 15-21; Registration for 'free ride' coupon underway
September 02, 2008NJ TRANSIT will offer free rides to Rowan University students from September 15 through September 21, 2008, to give them the opportunity to experience how simple and convenient it is to use public transportation.
During the free trial week, Rowan students can ride any NJ TRANSIT bus, rail or light rail line for free by presenting their valid student ID and a Free Ride coupon available at www.njtransit.com.
"The weeklong free trial gives students the chance to see how NJ TRANSIT can work for them as a convenient, affordable way to travel to work or school-especially given the sustained higher gas prices," said NJ TRANSIT Customer Service Manager Rebecca Peralta. "Students will find that NJ TRANSIT offers a hassle-free alternative to the limited parking availability that some schools face."
Students can register for their Free Ride now by visiting www.njtransit.com and filling out a short registration form. After registration, students will immediately be able to print out the Free Ride coupon, valid for unlimited use throughout the free trial week.
In addition to showing students how easy and convenient it is to use New Jersey's public transportation system, the trial is also intended to promote the benefits of the online Student Pass program, which provides a 25-percent discount off monthly passes to full-time students who attend Rowan.
With Student Pass, students simply log on to Rowan's Intranet (cp.rowan.edu), click on the link to NJ TRANSIT's monthly pass student discount and enter the requested information. After signing up, students will automatically receive a new monthly pass each month as long as the account remains active-leaving students to sit back, relax and let NJ TRANSIT do the driving.
The free trial week does not provide an additional discount for existing Student Pass customers.
About Student Pass
In 2004, NJ TRANSIT began a partnership with several colleges and universities in New Jersey to offer a 25-percent discount off NJ TRANSIT's already discounted rate for monthly passes to students who purchase their pass online. The pilot program was developed to increase student awareness of NJ TRANSIT's services, to guide them in discovering off-campus activities that they can reach using public transportation and to alleviate parking shortages at many universities.
