College of Business program earns prestigious ABET accreditationSeptember 09, 2008
The Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) recently accredited the Management Information Systems (MIS) program at Rowan University's William G. Rohrer College of Business.
The accreditation was awarded after a thorough peer review process by the non-profit organization.
According to its website, ABET's vision is to "provide world leadership in assuring quality and in stimulating innovation in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology education." This is accomplished through specialized accreditations to post-secondary educational programs that provide quality education pertinent to their field, according to the organization.
The Rohrer College of Business also holds an accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the MIS program is now one of only a handful of schools in the country that hold both prominent recognitions.
The mission of the MIS program is to prepare students for careers in a rapidly changing technological world by training them to analyze business problems, challenges and opportunities and to subsequently design, develop, implement and maintain business solutions through the use of information and information technology.
"This prestigious accreditation will reinforce the value of the MIS degree earned at the Rohrer College of Business and will make its students more desirable by prospective employers," said Dr. Niranjan Pati, dean, Rohrer College of Business.
The college offers undergraduate majors in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources management, management, marketing and management information systems as well as an M.B.A. program. Approximately 1,100 undergraduate and 80 graduate students are currently enrolled. Recipient of a $10-million gift from The William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation in March 2005, the Rohrer College of Business hosts a business incubator, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurs Forum of Southern New Jersey.
