Wind Ensemble concert features World Premiere
October 07, 2008The Rowan Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Pastin, premieres a new work at its first concert of the 2008-2009 season on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 8 pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall.
The Rowan student ensemble presents the World Premiere of composer Andrew Lesser’s Celebrations. The evening’s program also includes Aaron Copland’s Emblems; Camille Saint-Saens’ Danse Bacchanale (from Samson et Dalila), in an arrangement by Ken Singleton; Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, in an arrangement by Earl Slocum; Robert Jager’s Eternal Vigilance and Norman Dello Joio’s Satiric Dances.
Pastin, Lieutenant Commander and Conductor, US Navy Band (Retired), is a member of the Rowan music faculty and Director of Bands. He came to the university in 1998 after a 30-year career in the United States Navy’s music program. In addition to touring the world with various Navy bands, he served as Conductor and Officer in Charge for the U.S. Navy Band from 1995-1998. He earned numerous awards and commendations for his service and musicianship, including the Legion of Merit presented by then-President Clinton.
Pfleeger Concert Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro, NJ. The performance is free and open to the public.
