Lectures to celebrate new Philosophy and Religion Studies major
October 09, 2008Lectures in material religion and the importance of philosophy will kick off Rowan University's celebration of its new major in Philosophy and Religion Studies.
Colleen McDannell, Sterling McMurrin Chair in religious studies at the University of Utah, will present "Learning from ‘The Exorcist'" from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Room 126 of Science Hall.
McDannell is the author of five books on religious studies and has dedicated herself to studying religion in material cultures.
Lynn Nelson, professor of philosophy at the University of Washington, will present "Why Philosophy Matters in the 21st Century" from 10:50 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Rowan Hall Auditorium. A reception will follow the presentation.
Nelson has authored two books and studies philosophy as it relates to feminism, biology, and the social sciences.
The events are sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Department of Philosophy and Religion.
