Rowan Welcome Weekend offers numerous activities for students

“RU Ready to Grow?  Welcome Weekend 2009” at Rowan University will be filled with activities for new and returning students from Saturday, August 29, through Monday, August 31.

The social and educational events are designed to encourage students to get to know each other, staff and the opportunities Rowan offers while helping to ease new students' transition into college life. Research indicates that the first few weeks of school are critical to whether students have a successful college experience, and Welcome Weekend is designed to help students make the transition to university life.


The schedule includes:

Saturday, August 29
8:00 am - 4:00 pm Freshman Move-in
11:00 am - 2:00 pm Family Hospitality Area
Education Hall
11:00 am - 5:00 pm Student performers, caricaturists, and more will appear throughout campus.
1:00 - 5:00 pm Caribbean Buffet
Student Center Marketplace
Caribbean style music provided by Student Affairs
2:00 - 5:00 pm Time to unpack, arrange room, shop, etc.
7:00 pm RA Floor Meetings
9:00 pm - 2:00 am Stephan Gray - "Creative Dating: The Cure for the Common Relationship" (two shows: 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm)
Recreation Center
9:00 pm - 1:00 am Brunswick Bowling Alley - bowling, karaoke, billiards, video games, pizza and soda
Shuttles Available
Midnight - 2:00 am Midnight Breakfast - (meal plan can be used)

  • "You Don't Know Me Until You Know Me" by Michael Fowlin (45 minutes) Fowlin performs a one-person show that deals with the issues of race, discrimination, violence prevention, personal identity, suicide, gender equality, homophobia and the emotional pain felt by special education children.
    Eynon Ballroom
  • "The Truth About Money" by Ric Edelman (1 hour 15 minutes) In The Truth About Money, Edelman offers sound, up-to-the-minute advice for building a comfortable life and securing a well- planned future.
    Rotate Pfleeger Concert Hall and Eynon Ballroom
  • "Sex 101" by River Huston (1 hour 15 minutes) Huston presents an interactive talk that addresses how negotiation, communication, intimacy and chemistry affect our sexuality.
