Rowan's Mortar Board chapter receives national honor
September 15, 2009The Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society recently recognized Rowan University's chapter for excellence.
Rowan's Gamma Tau Sigma chapter received the society's Golden Torch Award, presented to outstanding chapters "that are superb, timely and go above and beyond the minimum standards throughout the academic year," according to Alicia Notestone, communications coordinator for the society.
Rowan was one of only 32 chapters nationwide to receive the Golden Torch Award during the 2009 Mortar Board National Conference in Chicago. Chapter President Brittany Quintana, a senior public relations/advertising major from Eastampton, accepted Rowan's award.
Founded in 1918, Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. The society boasts 227 chartered collegiate chapters.
Rowan's Gamma Tau Sigma chapter, which has 30 members, was chartered in 2001.
