'Red, Brown and Black': Speaker to address relations between Latinos, Native Americans and African-Americans
September 24, 2009Motivational speaker, poet and storyteller Bobby Gonzalez will present "Red, Brown and Black," a conversation focusing on the relations between Latinos, Native Americans and African-Americans, on Friday, Oct. 2, at Rowan University.
Gonzalez, who will draw on his Native American (Taino) and Latino (Puerto Rican) roots in his talk, will speak to the Rowan community beginning at 1 p.m. in the Eynon Ballroom of the Chamberlain Student Center. His talk, which is free and open to the public, is part of the University's observance of Hispanic Heritage Awareness Month.
Author of the new book The Last Puerto Rican Indian: A Collection of Dangerous Poetry, Gonzalez has lectured at a host of institutions, including Yale, Florida State, Vanderbilt and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
He has performed as a storyteller at Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Radio & Television, and the Detroit Institute of Arts and has read his poetry at a host of venues, including the National Museum of the American Indian and the University of North Dakota.
