Rowan Wind Ensemble debuts DiBlasio composition

The World Premiere performance of faculty member Denis DiBlasio’s latest composition is a highlight of Rowan Wind Ensemble’s concert on Thursday, October 15 at 8 pm in the university’s Pfleeger Concert Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. John Pastin, the student ensemble debuts DiBlasio’s Catch Roxy as part of a program that also includes Leonard Bernstein’s Profanation (from Jeremiah, Symphony #1), David Maslanka’s Give Us This Day, Alfred Reed’s Armenian Dances and Dave Ward’s Echoes of the Big Bands. Additionally, student conductor Steve Goldeck steps in to lead the ensemble for Warren Benson’s The Leaves are Falling.

Pastin, Lieutenant Commander and Conductor, US Navy Band (Retired), is a member of the Rowan music faculty and Director of Bands. He came to the university in 1998 after a 30-year career in the United States Navy’s music program. In addition to touring the world with various Navy bands, he served as Conductor and Officer in Charge for the U.S. Navy Band from 1995-1998. He earned numerous awards and commendations for his service and musicianship, including the Legion of Merit presented by then-President Clinton.

Pfleeger Concert Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro, NJ. The performance is free and open to the public.
