Rowan concert benefits Pujals scholarship

October 22, 2009

The sounds of Latin America are the centerpiece of a benefit concert, supporting a Rowan University scholarship fund, on Friday, October 23, 2009 in the university’s Boyd Recital Hall. The 7 pm concert is preceded by a tertulia (reception) and salon (pre-concert lecture) at 6 pm in the Boyd Hall Upper Lobby.

Presented by the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures and the College of Fine & Performing Arts at Rowan, the event features music faculty, students and alumni in a concert honoring professors emeriti Josefina and Enrique Pujals.

The Latin-themed program includes, among others, the Mayes Guitar Duo (faculty members Joseph and Kathleen Mayes) performing a classical guitar duet and student pianists Agustin Muriago and Alexei Ivanchenko.

Proceeds from the event will contribute to an endowment for the Josefina and Enrique Study Abroad Scholarship Fund. Every two years, $1,000 will be awarded to a qualified Spanish major who wishes to study abroad in a Latin American country.

Benefit tickets, which include the concert and reception, are $25. For reservations and additional information, contact the box office at (856)-256-4545, email arts@rowan.edu or visit www.rowan.edu/fpa. Boyd Recital Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University, Route 322 in Glassboro, NJ.

Those who cannot attend but are interested in supporting the scholarship may send a gift to The Josefina and Enrique Pujals Study Abroad Scholarship Fund, Rowan University, 201 Mullica Hill Road, Glassboro, NJ 08028.
