Guest artists offer trumpet and piano recital
October 22, 2009Rowan University’s Department of Music hosts a trumpet and piano recital featuring guest artists Dr. Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski and Dr. Carl Cranmer on Wednesday, October 28 at 8 pm in Boyd Recital Hall.
Trumpeter Dobrzelewski and pianist Cranmer join forces for a program including Alexander Arutiunian’s Concert Scherzo for trumpet and piano, Robert Maggio’s Prelude Hymn and Toccata for piano, Henri Senée’s Concertino for cornet and piano and Eric Ewazen’s Sonata for trumpet and piano.
A native of Costa Rica, Dobrzelewski is an international performer and educator who has appeared as a soloist with orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber groups throughout the United States, Central America and Europe. He is an assistant professor of trumpet at West Chester University School of Music and a founding member of Tromba Mundi, West Texas Brass Project and Tryptique Ensemble, in addition to being an active freelancer in the Philadelphia area. He received a “Prix de Trompette” from the Rueil-Malmaison Conservatory of Music in Paris, a Master of Music Performance from the University of Maine and a Doctor of Music Arts degree from Arizona State University, all in the area of performance.
Cranmer made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of nine. Since then, in addition to solo recitals in Europe, Asia and North America, he has performed with the Royal Philharmonic of England, Gulbenkian Orquesta of Portugal and Juilliard Orchestra, among others. In addition to studies in the United States, Cranmer attended the Sommerakademie at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Among his many honors are the Grand Prize at the 1994 Missouri Southern Piano Competition, the 1995 Spanish Music Prize and the Finalist Prize in the Santander Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition in Spain. His performances have been televised in Madrid, Tokyo, Missouri and Philadelphia, and aired on NPR, and radio stations in New York, Chicago, Montréal, Boston and Atlanta.
